2009: The Year of John Calvin

This year I have resolved to read more primary sources, and let the dead folks talk for themselves. My first attempt will be reading John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion, his Biblical exposition of a consistent, transformed life of faith in the Son of God for the glory of God and the benefit of the world.

John Calvin, one of the most misunderstood and misquoted theologians in history, was born in 1509 in Noyon, France. His contributions to the Protestant Reformation at great cost to himself make him worthy to re-discover and peruse his intelligent writings. This year marks the 500th anniversary of his birth.

I'd like to know what you all are reading (I like to read widely, so feel free to recommend).

I will be interested to see what you come out of this with. I just finished Hard Times by Dickens and am rereading Uncle Tom's Cabin

Can you recommend a site with good commentary on Pilgrim's Progress? I finished a couple of months ago and now I am ready to read some commentary on it.

A lot of the commentary I found is poor. It attacks the Christianity and Puritanism of the book without any intelligence

I am finishing Uncle Tom's Cabin - I would be done but my neighbor (who is a non-Christian) gave me two of her favorite chic-lit books to read and I read them - I hope they help me understand her and be more effective - we will see...
