(yes, there is a road that goes past their place)
I was really struggling all last week to fight off a sore throat & cold, and felt shattered* by Friday after school. We really needed to get out to my mom and dad's, and this weekend had been planned way ahead. So we prayed for strength and Friday night our church home group prayed for our time out there. Saturday I got up and felt tired; but by the time we got to the turn off for Sanders, Idaho, I was feeling OK. By noon I felt great--my sinuses cleared and I was swinging a pickaxe to loosen gravel from a hillside and was building the railing on their porch stairs. Jenno helped inside as it rained off and on all day. What a gracious thing for God to do... he refreshed me enough to serve someone who needed it. Today I'm back to feeling stuffy and sore, but I thank God for that window of strength.
This morning it was not easy to get to church... felt groggy again. As we sang a very rousing worship song by Sovereign Grace, I joined in the clapping, then winced because I scraped my right palm on a rusty nail yesterday. I ran inside to clean it up (hoping no infection). This morning in the meeting I considered other nails...
Oh beautiful man whose outstretched hands
Were pierced by nails far worse;
The severing thrust of nails stained with rust
You allowed so to swallow the curse
Of punishment (mine) and atone for my crimes.
I love, for you loved me first.
Next week I will resume my "Be" word-journey, with "belong" and "berate" coming up next. Check back in a few days and join the ride through the countryside: the landscape of our language.
*shattered (British idiom meaning wiped out)
